The concept of ego, as Campbell explains , refers to awareness in the service of fear. He distinguishes between ego, which seeks to control and justify things, and awareness in the service of love, which focuses on being helpful and selfless towards others. Most people tend to operate from a place of fear, ego, and belief, making fear the center of their actions and decisions. However, he proposes that awareness in the service of love eliminates ego and fear, leading to choices made with a motive of care and compassion.
It can be challenging to discern whether an action stems from ego or genuine concern, as the ego often justifies and deceives. The key lies in examining one’s deep-rooted intentions and motivations. By eliminating fear, ego, and limiting beliefs, individuals can achieve a state of low entropy and make choices driven by love. The journey of transcending ego and fear is a continuous process, through which individuals strive to attain a higher quality of consciousness.
