“The Power of Individuality: Breaking Free from the Herd Mentality”

2 minute read

In “My Big TOE,” Tom Campbell warns against following the herd, which leads to stagnation and a lack of personal growth. The herd uses fear and ego to maintain cohesion, but individual consciousness should not be sacrificed for group validation. Breaking free may seem scary, but innovators, discoverers, and creators have followed this path and made a significant difference.

Following the herd, no matter which way it is going, inevitably leads to stasis and dysfunction.

Following the herd or conceptual center allows you to trade the opportunity for personal progress and growth for an easy and safe no-brainer glide through existence. Unfortunately, procrastination and immediate gratification team up to produce the worst possible long-term strategy for consciousness evolution.

The herd appears to validate each member with its mutual support mantra of “I’m OK, you’re OK, we are all OK as long as we stick together.” Fear and ego provide the herd’s cohesive forces. Your individual consciousness is a personal thing, not a group thing.

If you have the courage to break loose from the herd, don’t worry; the larger world is not nearly as scary as it looks. Gather strength and resolve from the fact that, as a solitary seeker, you are following the path of all innovators, discoverers, and creators. Only as an individual do you have the potential to make a significant difference where it counts the most.’

About Me

I am fascinated by the extensive body of work developed by Tom Campbell, and have found his My Big TOE (Theory of Everything) theory to be particularly insightful in exploring fundamental questions that have puzzled mankind throughout history. Utilizing Campbell’s theories, my goal is to gain a deeper understanding of not only myself, but also others and the world around me. By examining these concepts through the lens of MBT, I believe we can unlock a greater understanding of our collective existence and the nature of reality itself.
