Big Truth refers to deeper truths about the nature of reality and existence. The statement means that to effectively apply Big Truth, we must deeply understand it, and this understanding goes beyond just intellectual knowledge. Wisdom, which comes from the heart and soul, is also important. While our intellect can guide us in our search for Big Truth, it is not enough to fully comprehend it.
Tom Campbell distinguishes between belief and knowledge. Belief is what we hold onto when we are uncertain or ignorant about something. It can come from various sources, such as culture, religion, science, or personal experience. However, if we truly know something, we do not need to believe it. Real knowledge is based on what is true and can be proven. Pseudo-knowledge, on the other hand, is when we believe something is true, but it is actually false. Belief masquerading as knowledge is not real knowledge.
